And it seems like it'd be easy to carve a toroid out of a block or a
thick sheet of a stack of styrofoam sheets stuck together. Styrofoam
has very low loss and probably could be left in place without
substantially reducing the Q or the self-resonant frequency of a
coil. However, I would not leave styrofoam in a transmitting coil
because an arc, occurring for any random reason such as an insect
nest on/in the coil, could ignite the styrofoam.
