Good day Jim and Malcolm and Chuck,
A point about aluminum; it corrodes a lot more slowly than
copper. Also, some TV antennas seem to be made with a
non-corrosive coating. I had a Radio Shack log-periodic for
over 20 years that hadn't corroded.
I asked the question because I built my HF prototype using
copper pipe and tubing, which I can easily get at my local
hardware and building supply stores. I've been considering
a radial system for some time, and I've seen different
advices on using insulated vs. uninsulated, and buried vs.
above ground. It seems to me that if you use buried
uninsulated copper wire, it will corrode and you'll have
changing contact with the earth. Also, the copper in the
air formed an oxide layer in only a year's time.
Regards,
Doug Miron
