OK; I remember that now. Like terminating a rhombic, which is
another long wire, efficient, traveling wave antenna.

That's a good use for a resistive load -- to kill an undesired mode
in a basically efficient radiator. Not like using resistors to cover
up for a basically inefficient radiator.
