This is a request for assistance from those of you in the AM
broadcast business.
In the past I have occasionally published a few papers in IEEE
Transactions on Broadcasting pertaining to the application of NEC
to the design of AM broadcast directional arrays. Unfortunately, it
appears that the editorial policy of the Transactions has changed
such that the subject of AM directional antennas has fallen out of
favor notwithstanding the renewed interest brought about by the
potential for digital broadcasting.
Because it appears that the Transactions on Broadcasting is no
longer available as a vehicle to publish that type of information, I am
attempting to put together a manuscript titled Basic NEC with
Broadcast Applications which demonstrates some methods for the
design and analysis of AM broadcast directional antennas using the
basic public domain NEC engine and some special post processing
programs. I also want to include some comparisons of calculated data
and measured data.
I am retired and do not have access to measured data from completed
arrays so I am sending this message to solicit help from those of you who
might be in the AM broadcast business and are willing to share with me
some measured base impedance data from individual passive towers
and the driving point impedances of the operating array. Please send
me an email if you are interested and I will send more details. In return for
the data, I will be sure that you receive a copy of the completed manuscript.
For those of you who might be interested in the type of work I have done in
the past, I refer you to the following papers in the IEEE Transactions on
Broadcasting - June, 1998 pp 186-193; December, 1998 pp507-516;
September 2001 pp 259-262. In addition, a paper describing the use of
NEC for system and bandwidth analysis is pending peer review but the
editor is not optimistic and predicts that it will be at least 18 months before
the paper will be considered for publication. Thus my decision to do the
manuscript.
My appreciation to all,
J.L. Smith, P.E.
