I am a relative new comer.
I am still learning the basics of the modeling software "4nec-2" and am trying to get an idea of how I could model an existing
antenna for modifications and do the following:
I am about to be the proud new owner of a very old three element beam. (Hornet TB-500).
It is a very simple tree element trap yagi, all spacing is 7' between elements and it is on a 14' boom.
As I understand it two bands (15 and 20) work fine, but the 10 meter band doesn't tune up correctly.
Since this is a trap yagi, I am thinking about taking the traps apart to see if I can find the problem. Then rebuild or clean-up the
traps.
As I understand it they used to have a problem with water getting into the traps and causing some kind of problem, so it is probably
just a simple cleaning up.
Once I can figure out the problem and get it going, I am wanting to see if I can increase the forward gain of the antenna. Will
putting the antenna on a longer boom do this? But I don't know how to model this in the software.
