Another good reference in the same issue of IEEE Trans. on A&P (July 1977)
that Doug mentioned, is Pettengill, Garland, and Mendl, "Receiving antenna
design for miniature receivers." pp528-530. This derives a number of useful
equations in receiving ferrite loop design.
