Well, not 100%, but that antenna does not seem very practical
because a single ferrite rod that size would weigh almost a
ton. I don't know why anyone would want to do that.
In any case I don't think an antenna like that would be very
effective. I have studied small loop antennas and the
literature about them in some detail and never saw that type
of antenna mentioned. Maybe someone can help.

Are you (or anybody else) sure about this ?. I once had a huge army-style
coil-like ferrite antenna containing a number of ferrite rods of some 15 cm
radius an some 1.5 mtr of length. I always thougth it was used for
transmitting because of the (wire)dimensions and weight involved.
Unfortionally I do not have it any more and it disappeared out of my sight.
