Just place the exe files in your ..\4nec2\exe folder, and if all is OK 4nec2
should automatically select/use the correct exe file.
With 'Settings->Nec engine' on the 'Main (F2)' window, you should be able to
select between the original nec2d or the Nec2dXS or (when you have a
license) even a Nec4 engine.
Note, that the original nec2d.exe engine does not run on windows-XP.
When starting the Nec2 engine by using the menu-command or the F7 key, in
the title-bar for thr 'Generate' window, the name of the nec2d*.exe file to
start is listed. What file-name is displayed ?
