Hi John

You may want to consider using SuperNEC.
SuperNEC has a helical antenna assembly which makes it very easy to create a
helices as you only require inputting physical data such as what spacing you
require between turns, the base radius of the helix and the tip radius and
total length of helix, and then the model is automatically generated (No
need to write NEC2 file) or look at text files for input or output.

In addition SuperNEC will be releasing the latest version 2.3 on the website
at www.supernec.com within the next 2 weeks with a Genetic Algorithm
optimiser. This optimiser allows antenna assemblies, such as the helical
one, to be easily optimised for gain and input impedance at the same time.
Infact I ran some optimisations on helices at 1GHz (optimising for Gain and
VSWR )and got some very pleasing results. This is a very small problem for a
GA optimiser. If you are interested in some of the results for the helices
that i simulated at around 1GHz please let me know.

I hope the above may prove useful.
Regards
Brandon
