Hello, and just a small nit: I don't believe an antenna "launches" a
surface wave. Whether or not a surface wave exists is determined by
the properties (permittivity, permeability, conductivilty) of the
medium not the antenna. Certainly a given type of antenna (e.g. low
angle pattern) can favor groundwave mode over spacewave mode.
