Hello Alexandre
Some practical points and experiences with buoys, is the hull of the buoy
made out of metal or is it plastic?
We (Datawell) make buoys which operate in the 20-50 MHz region and our
experience is that (with our 100 bps datalink operating at 100 mW output
power to a 1/4 wave monopole):
- over salt water 60 kilometers can be reached;
- over low salinity water (like in lakes) approximately 15 kilometers can be
reached;
- over fresh water ice only 3 kilometers can be reached -you're from Canada
aren't you-;
However, this also depends on the height of the waves (probably no problem
on your lake) and the antenna position over water, when it is not streight
up we will have additional polarisation losses (receive antenna is
vertically polarised).
I hope this helps,
