Regarding Jim Lux's inquiry on negative rsistance in arrays:

It's actually a very common occurance. A good example is in multi tower AM
broadcast arrays where one or more towers frequently operate in that state.
Typically, the power is returned to the common point of the system and
recombined with the transmitter output. A less effecient way is to terminate
it into a dummy load, which is sometimes temporarily done in the tune-up of
these systems to simplify handling the adjustment. Any good text on medium
wave antennas such as LaPorte's Radio Antenna Engineering, Carl Smith's
Theory and Design of Directional Antennas, or Jasik's Antenna Engineering
Handbook will have details.
