I also don't think it's a memory problem, but I can not be sure.
Overhere I do not have the ability to run/test on Windows-XP.

Using the 4nec2 version 5.1 I get the below results.
On Windows-Me, Pentium III, 1 Ghz, 256Mb
model containing 2601 segments

Nec2d2k8.exe 152.452 sec's
Nec2dXS3k0.exe 829.733 sec's

Using NecWinplus demo version I get 643.350 sec's
