Circularly polarized transmit and receive antennas are matched when the senses
are identical. For example, a right-hand wound helix antenna transmits and
receives right-hand polarized signals. A RHCP receive antenna should be used
to receive signals from a RHCP transmit antenna. A good mechanical analogy is
a right-hand threaded bolt which mates to a right-hand tapped hole for both
screwing in and out.
I published a book on the subject - W. Stutzman, "Polarization in
Electromagnetic Systems," Artech House, 1993. ISBN 0-89006-508-X
