RE: NEC-LIST: Simulations of Q and the Chu-Harrington Limit

Hi Chip,

I feel that my e-mails to the list over the past few days were
sufficiently off-topic and I think it would be inappropriate to continue
this discussion here. I will send you pdf copies of the Allerton
papers.

I would like to point out that the statement that "'fractal geometry has
no special value in small antennas" was not the general conclusion. The
papers addressed the issue of whether the performance properties (and
specifically the resonant performance properties) of the small Koch
fractal monopole are unique to its fractal geometry and how the
performance properties of the Koch fractal monopole compares to other
antennas of the same height, diameter and total wire length such as
simple meander line and normal mode helix monopoles.

Hi Steve,

Can you kindly and briefly summarize what the conclusion of this paper
is? As I have been told by many others, its that "'fractal geometry has
no special value in small antennas." I have also been told that your
paper concludes that "fractal element antennas work worse than meander
line antennas". Also, what sort of feedback did you get from some of the
more established (than us) folks? I'd like to understand the point of
view.

As I have not seen the paper, I do not want to assume.

Chip N1IR
