To expand on Jerry Burke's comments, I've recommended to users of NEC-2
based EZNEC that they make a "connection" to Sommerfeld ground by
placing some radial wires just above the ground and connecting to their
center. It only takes a few radials to get an effective ground
resistance considerably lower than a typical Beverage termination. The
difference at the far end is made up with a single resistive load.
