I've scanned a while back the 86 pages of part 1 of the NEC2 manual,
and converted it into an PDF/Acrobat file. I think the result is OK. I
can send it to you if you wish, the file size is 1.6MB. (FTP might be
better than e-mail).

Would anyone be interested in hosting the file on a NEC-related
WEB/FTP site?
