NEC-2 uses four sequential access files rather than the single direct
access file used by NEC-4, so four times as much disk space will be
needed with NEC-2. System virtual memory will probably be a better
choice in this case if it is available.

---- Hi Although virtual memeory will use less disk space with Nec2 than the four files, it can (is?) be a lot slower. On my PC (Pentium 100, 16 MByte memory, with Win95, MS PS4 Fortran) a problem with a bit over 1500 segments run over 12 hours using virtual memory(4 M words core used), while only 28 minutes when using the sequential files (0.5 M words core used) If you have the disk space then with nec2 rather use sequential files than virtual memory (on PC's at least).
