HELP. Good day folks. Once again I appeal to you for assistance. I am
working on an article for IEEE AP magazine on the very early days of
wireless telegraphy (that tells you how old) circa 1898 (that confirms it -
no typo here), prior to the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902. I have many
references to Journal articles including, amongst others, Zeitschrift fu"r
Electrotechnik (1897), The Electrical Review (1898) and one referred to as
ETZ (1897 and later). Can any of our colleagues in Germany or Europe
enlighten me as to the Journal referred to as ETZ. I suspect
ElectroTechnische Zeitung or Zeitschrift, but other than a feel for the
abbreviation, I cannot comment.
For the record, this is a fascinating history of the first order for
wireless telegraphy equipment and the subsequent history. My co-author,
colleague and friend Brian Austin, University of Liverpool, is delivering
a very interesting paper on this subject at '100 Years of Radio', probably
even as you read this, at an IEE Conference in London. He is mounting an
exhibit of memorabilia as well as the Siemens receiver.
Any comments, feedback, information etcetera would be most welcome.
Have a great day, Duncan Baker.
